'Art in the Park' pays tribute to live oaks, history and nature
Artists, nature lovers, history enthusiasts and other community members couldn’t have asked for a better day to celebrate the natural canvas at Daniel Island’s Smythe Park.
“Art in the Park: A Celebration of Daniel Island’s Live Oaks,” hosted by the Daniel Island Historical Society and the Art Guild of Daniel Island, took place on Saturday, April 27, on the banks of Smythe Lake. Several artists created their own renditions of the picturesque live oaks dotting the landscape, while other guests enjoyed Gullah storytelling by Ann Caldwell, a history presentation by DIHS board member Lee Ann Bain, rock painting by Daniel Island Rocks, birdhouse painting, musical entertainment and more. Live oaks in the park that have been adopted by community members through the DIHS “Live Oak Campaign,” and those that were available for adoption, were adorned with bright ribbons.
The free event was made possible through a grant from the Daniel Island Community Fund.
