Buddy Walk!
Close to 2000 people of all ages turned out for the 15th annual Buddy Walk on Daniel Island on Oct. 6. The event kicked off in Etiwan Park and the walk took participants through local neighborhoods. The national Buddy Walk program was established to promote acceptance and inclusion of people with Down syndrome and to celebrate Down Syndrome Awareness Month in October.
Donations will continue to be accepted by the Down Syndrome Association of the Lowcountry through the end of October at www.dsalowcountry.org.
Funds generated will help provide camps for children with Down Syndrome, baby packets for new parents, education of families and socials for teens and adults.
“My favorite part of the day is when all of our families line up for the walk, the color guard presents the flags, the band plays the anthem and cheerleaders start to cheer for our teams,” said 2018 Buddy Walk Co-Chair Dawn Durante, a Daniel Island resident. “It’s an exciting moment when you get to see everyone gathered together in support and celebration of our loved ones with Down syndrome.”
