Business Briefs - August 10, 2017

The new Domino’s franchise on Daniel Island is scheduled to open within the next few weeks, according to franchise owner Kerri Saunders. The pizzeria is located in the Publix Shopping Center, beside Honeycomb Cafe. Saunders and her husband, Ben, are franchise owners for 18 Dominos in the Charleston area and another seven in Augusta, Georgia. According to Kerri, the new space will be a “sophisticated” location that will include dual entrances, indoor and outdoor seating, opportunities to watch pizza being made (and a children’s step chair for enhanced viewing), a pre-ordering app, and more.

A new hardware store is coming to the Cainhoy Peninsula. Next year, True Value Company, one of the world’s largest retailer-owned hardware cooperatives, will welcome its newest member, Clements Ferry Hardware. Daniel Island resident Darrin Witt is owner of the new store.

“Our focus for Clements Ferry Hardware will be to provide unique product offerings and fulfill the needs of a community that has long been missing a local hardware store,” said Witt. “By joining True Value, we are well positioned to execute our commitment.”

“We are pleased to welcome Clements Ferry Hardware to the True Value family,” said Senior Vice President of Growth Tim Mills. “Darrin has lived on Daniel Island for 18 years, and we look forward to supporting him as he works diligently for the Cainhoy Peninsula and adds to an already strong presence of True Value hardware stores in the greater Charleston area.”

The new store will encompass 12,000 square feet of retail space, and there will be an outside lawn and garden center. Clements Ferry Hardware is scheduled to open in the spring of 2018.

The True Value Company, headquartered in Chicago, had gross billings of over $2 billion and revenue of $1.5 billion in 2016. The True Value cooperative includes approximately 4400 independent retailer locations worldwide.

A new hair and beauty establishment will soon be setting up shop on Daniel Island. Haven Hair & Skin Salon, to be located at 859 Island Park Drive, will offer a range of services including permanent color; highlighting; haircuts for women, men and children; special occasion hair styling; hair treatments, make-up application, waxing services and more.

The shop is owned by Joanna Rhodes, who has previously worked on Daniel Island as a stylist for eight years before moving to a location in Mount Pleasant.

“I decided to take a leap of faith to making my dream of owning my own salon come true,” said Rhodes. “The (Daniel Island) location is ideal and very visible to residents and those who work on the island, and all my clients know where to go! I have relationships with so many residents and workers on DI and look forward to providing them with this gem of a salon!”

Rhodes started in the beauty industry 13 years ago as a makeup artist. As her passion grew, she decided to become a hair stylist and skin care professional as well.

“To be honest, I wouldn’t be able to make this dream a reality if it weren’t for my clients...over the past eight years I have formed relationships that go beyond hair, and without their support I wouldn’t be where I am today. I love Charleston and I love the people! Daniel Island has been my home away from home and I have a special connection to it. I want to provide a ‘Haven’ for people to come and it be all about them, and feel pampered...all while receiving the best and up to date services, with experienced stylists, for reasonable prices.”

Rhodes hopes to open her new salon in September.
