C4W 'Influential Women in Business' event inspires women leaders

Daniel Island's Angel Roberts wins entrepreneur award

On Friday, September 23, the Center for Women hosted its inaugural ‘Influential Women in Business’ event as a breakfast at the Charleston Area Convention Center in North Charleston.

With four defined categories (Leadership, Entrepreneurship, Advocacy and Rising Star), the community nominated close to 70 women overall. Prior judging by representatives at Roper St. Francis, Finkel Law Firm and Southern Shows, narrowed the field to three finalists in each category.

Daniel Island’s Angel Roberts of Peace Love Hip Hop was a finalist in the Entrepreneur category and ultimately won the first place honor and was presented an award at the event.

“I was so inspired by what these incredible, hard working passionate women had to say and humbled to be in their presence,” said Roberts of the group of women nominated for each category.

Roberts posted her thoughts on Facebook after reflecting about her award:

“Owning your own business is not for the weak.

You must love what you do more than anything.

You have to have an amazing team.

You have to have an amazing, supportive family.

Don’t ever get too comfortable.

Don’t follow the rules.

Your success can’t be measured by money....but by the people you inspire.”

Other winners were Angela Mack with the Gibbes Museum of Art, for the Leadership category; Melissa Moore with We Are Family, for the Rising Star category; and Germaine Jenkins with Fresh Future Farm, for the Advocacy category.
