Delta Pharmacy’s upcoming move perfect prescription for growing community

Delta Pharmacy will be relocating its Daniel Island store to a new building next year. Owner Willis High said the move was prompted in part by lessor's reluctance to extend a long-term lease to the business.

“They would only renew it a year at a time. They weren’t interested in extending our lease past a year,” he explained.

High is leasing the new property from Island Market LLC. He wanted to buy land and build, but because of the robust market conditions on Daniel Island, there wasn’t anything available.

Construction on the new location is set for completion next year and the DI Delta Pharmacy should open by summer 2021. The new building located on Island Park Drive, between Ristorante LIDI and Palmetto Primary Care Physicians, will be about 2,000 square feet. The space is roughly 700 square feet larger than the current space in Daniel Island Town Center.

High plans to have dedicated parking spaces for added customer convenience. He is confident the move will be beneficial for both the community and Delta Pharmacy.

“The island has grown a lot and we have grown a lot. We just needed more space and room for products and services for our customers,” High said.

Daniel Island resident John Granozio is looking forward to the new location.

“I am very excited about this and it will be good for Delta and also for its customers,” he said.

The full-service, family-owned pharmacy chain has been part of the Lowcountry community for over 85 years. The original Delta Pharmacy opened in Moncks Corner in 1935. There are now seven locations, including the one on Daniel Island, which has been
serving the community for 10 years.

Lowcountry local Suzanne White said she appreciates that Delta Pharmacy is locally owned.

“Not only do they live and work here, but they invest in our community as well,” she said.

High, the third generation of the Delta Pharmacy proprietors, is excited the additional space will provide even more services for Daniel Island and the surrounding communities. He hopes to offer the
COVID-19 vaccine to residents as soon as it becomes available to the general public.

Delta Pharmacy prides itself on stocking hard-to-find remedies and providing products not available at chain pharmacies including bioidentical hormone replacement as well as medical equipment, diabetic supplies and immunizations.

“We do customized compounding that is unique to individuals. You can’t get at the box stores,” High stated.

The pharmacy accepts a variety of insurance plans and guarantees customers pay the lowest cash price. Currently, free delivery is available for Daniel Island residents.
