Meet the Merchants: Paisley of Daniel Island
You don’t have to leave the Island to find fun fashionable frocks and gifts. Located in the Publix’s shopping center, Paisley of Daniel Island specializes in unique clothing and locally sourced gifts. The store has been a mainstay on the island for over eight years.
Lori Nadelstumph, the present owner of Paisley of Daniel Island, purchased the business three years ago. As her children became older, this stay-at-home mom decided it was time to try something new. She was thrilled when the opportunity to become part of the DI community arose. “I have always loved Daniel Island and was so excited to find a business opportunity here. I wanted to purchase something that wasn’t a franchise so that I could make my own decisions and bring in new products,” said Nadelstumph.
Many of the items sold at Paisley come from local artists. Currently there are 10 locally made products from area artists available at the store.
J. Melissa Designs features custom designs by local Missy Newson and is a favorite among customers. Buyers get a unique piece of jewelry and feel good about their purchase. A portion of every sale goes to Mengo Children’s Foundation of Uganda, Africa, for women and children in need.
Daniel Island resident Renee Gutzwiller owns Island Haus Co., a company that specializes in local-themed products, including Daniel Island mugs and ornaments. “Paisley was the very first store to carry the Island Haus Co. products. Lori prides herself in carrying only the best for her customers so it was a huge honor that she wanted to carry my line as well,” Gutzwiller said.
Nadelstumph is available on site to assist in styling or help customers pick out the perfect present to exemplify the Southern lifestyle.
“I look for quality fashion at affordable prices. We have something for everyone, clothing, accessories and gifts,” explained Nadelstumph. “Our goal is to provide women of all ages with comfortable and classic pieces that will make them feel fabulous! We also provide free shipping to our out of town customers,” she added.
Jan Boyd, visiting with friends from California, appreciated the fact she could buy Charleston souvenirs and have them shipped back home for free. “From the moment we walked into Paisley, the scent of candles made it an inviting stop during our visit to Daniel Island. Right away I found a gorgeous necklace to replace the one I forgot to pack,” exclaimed Boyd.
“I was impressed that many items were made by a variety of local artisans. After finding out the store offers free shipping, I’m looking forward to my next visit so that I can purchase clothes and not have to worry about finding space in my suitcase to get them home,” added Boyd.
Paisley is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. and Sundays from 1 until 5 p.m. To find out more about Paisley, follow their Facebook and Instagram pages.
