Who's in that new building?

That’s right, readers, it’s another inquisitive title, only this one is not predestined to become a regular column (though it could, with all the new commercial development on the island…).

This brief is about the newly-completed 1 Central Island Plaza, located just across Island Park Drive from Guggenheim Park on a freshly-paved road called Central Island Street. The commercial space comes courtesy of Holder Properties, and is a 75,000 square foot Class “A” office building. It features welcoming lobby with wood and marble finishes, and was designed with energy efficient systems and environmentally sensitive materials.

Holder Properties leasing agent Jeff Mixson reports that, between the tenants currently moved in and another third-floor tenant in final stages of contract, 1 Central Island Plaza is approximately 80% leased out, and that the majority of businesses are new to Daniel Island, having been attracted to the island town and the new space over alternate Charleston-area locations.

The businesses now occupying space in 1 Central Island Plaza are: Alliance Consulting Engineers, Inc. – Professional design services and engineering solutions (new Charleston office); Arthur J. Gallagher & Co. – Global brokerage for commercial insurance, employee benefits, and risk management (relocated from Mount Pleasant); Cushman & Wakefield Thalhimer – Commercial real estate firm (relocated from downtown Charleston); Equifax – Credit reporting agency; and, HCA South Atlantic Division – Healthcare network of six hospitals in South Carolina and Florida (moved from UBS building on Daniel Island).

The Western and Southern Life Insurance Company will be moving into the new building by December 1, 2015.
