DI ballerina performs in Nutcracker production
Daniel Island resident Annaliesa Gowe performed in the Dance Conservatory of Charleston’s “Scenes from the Nutcracker” on Dec. 2 at the J. Barry Goldsmith Performing Arts Center at James Island High School.
Annaliesa danced the role of the Sugar Plum Fairy. Her dance partner in the pas de deux was special guest performer Stephan Hanna, a former New York City Ballet principal dancer who recently performed on Broadway in “Hello Dolly.” Annaliesa, a full time student at Dance Conservatory Charleston, is in ninth grade at Oceanside Academy.
Dance Conservatory of Charleston was approved to perform excerpts from George Balanchine’s The Nutcracker®, an honor only bestowed on select schools. The opportunity it provides DCC is on par with the top pre-professional training schools in the country.
The DCC was founded by New York City ballet dancer Lindy Mandradjieff, who currently serves as director of the program. Daniel Island resident Deanna McBrearty, recently named dance program director of the planned Daniel Island Performing Arts Center, is also a DCC teacher and formerly danced with the New York City Ballet.
The Dance Conservatory of Charleston opened its doors in the summer of 2017. It is located on Ashley Hall Road in West Ashley.
