DIHS Presentation
On Tues. Oct. 17, the Daniel Island Historical Society will present “Our Mighty Waters: Charleston’s Maritime Heritage from 1670-1865” at 7 p.m. at Church of the Holy Cross on Daniel Island. David Silliman, a member of the Executive Cmte. of the Carolina Yacht Club and the chairman of its Fine Arts Cmte., will serve as guest speaker. All are welcome. The history of both Charleston and Daniel Island have been closely tied to her waters – from the arrival of the original settlers, pirates sailing these waters, battles that were fought on her rivers and ocean, to the blockade of her ports. The Schooners, Sloops, Brigs and Cutters were all part of powerful trade that occurred for generations. Without the help of men such as Daniel Island’s own Paul Pritchard and his shipyard, this industry would not have been as significant as it was. Free. www.dihistoricalsociety.com.
