BEHS to host Daniel Island 5K

Runners and walkers take your mark! The Bishop England High School track and cross country programs will host their 19th Annual 5K Run and Walk on Saturday, March 11. According to Race Director Tony Colizzi, the event is fast becoming the area’s “favorite 5K” with over 200 participants expected to take part this year.

The race offers the best of both worlds, he continued, with a “flat, fast course” that is ideal for both competitors and casual runners or walkers. The certified course starts at Bishop England, located at 363 Seven Farms Drive, and weaves through Daniel Island neighborhoods.

“With the event occurring in March, it is an excellent training event for the thousands of local Cooper River Bridge Run runners,” added Colizzi.

The event’s mission is to promote health, fitness and improved quality of life; to provide the best conducted, competitive 5K running event in the area; to offer a fun run and walking event in a beautiful, unique setting; and to raise funds for the BEHS track program. Cash prizes for the top three overall male and female finishers will be awarded. Additionally, the top three finishers in each of the 22 race categories will receive merchandise or gift certificates. Post-race festivities will include food, beverages and additional prizes.

The presenting sponsor of the race is Lucey Mortgage Corporation. Supporting sponsors include Clawson and Staubes LLC, Charleston Rubber & Gasket Co. Inc., Daniel Island Real Estate, Kassis Brothers Shoes, Lowcountry 911 Driving School, Periodontal Associates LLC, Scout Boats, Chandler Construction Services Inc., Publix, and Sandpiper Premier Senior Living.
