Book drive being held to benefit primary school in Botswana

Tory Lysik, a Daniel Island sophomore attending Hanahan High School, is collecting books to send to a primary school in Africa. Philanthropy is nothing new to Tory. She spent two weeks this past summer with Global Leadership Adventures taking care of elephants in northern Thailand. After that trip, Tory decided she wanted to help the world in other ways. That’s when the idea for the book drive was born.

“I wanted to do (the book drive) because I realized when I was in Thailand this summer how fortunate we are in America. I wanted to think of something that we freely have and books came to mind,” says Tory.
She began researching the Internet to find a reputable organization, and finally decided on the African Library Project.

“(Tory’s) goal is to join the Peace Corps after college and this particular organization partners with the Peace Corps and school administrators making sure the shipped books get to the proper location,” explains Tory’s mother, Kristin.
Speaking of shipping, Tory is saving her own money to pay the $500 shipping and freight fee.

If you would like to donate books to the cause, please contact Tory at Torybl@icloud.com or to learn more about her book drive please visit: http://www.africanlibraryproject.org/book-drives/book-drives-in-action?a....

“All children should have access to books and the younger they can access them, the more they’ll benefit,” says Tory. “I am the only person doing a book drive for this school!”
