Daniel Island Historical Society digs in to farming history!

The Daniel Island Historical Society got to the root of the Lowcountry’s agricultural history at its kick-off fall program on September 15 with guest speaker Andrea Limehouse of Limehouse Produce, a company that has served the area’s farm to table needs for generations. Limehouse discussed the family’s ties to the farmers on John’s Island and the surrounding areas, and the integral role Limehouse Produce is playing in the culinary explosion happening here in Charleston. Local chef and Daniel Island resident Jacqueline Gowe, owner and director of “Italian in the Kitchen,” also spoke with the audience about Daniel Island’s new Community Garden at the Daniel Island School before serving up a homemade rice pie with a fricassee of vegetables for all to enjoy. The next DIHS meeting will be held on October 20 and will focus on the historical connection between Charleston and Barbados.
