Daniel Island History - October 1, 2015

FIVE YEARS AGO
In the September 30, 2010 edition of the paper, our cover featured 4 short stories: the return of the 7th Annual Buddy Walk, construction was set to begin on Governor’s Park, the Berkeley County School District was facing financial woes due to changes in funding, and TGIFF kicked off its 12th season.
In school news, Berkeley County School District was looking for creative ways to fund and provide arts to students. Jonathon Green held a fundraiser for the arts and a district spokesperson said that the district welcomes more private programming, “One area that we could investigate is more supplemental after-school programs in dance, drama and strings. We would be interested in being able to offer that additional enrichment for students at our schools if we could find business partners willing to provide those services. Again, these would be fee-based programs.”
In sports, islander Rick Lund completed the Disney World full-marathon and a Disneyland the
half-marathon one year, earning a commemorative Coast-to-Coast medal for successfully completing races on both coasts within the same calendar year.
