Daniel Island's first Sip Shop Support event happening June 22!
What started as an idea amongst a group of friends wanting to support local businesses has turned into a community shopping and dining event benefiting the Campaign for the MUSC Shawn Jenkins Children’s Hospital. Happening next week on Wednesday, June 22 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., islanders and friends of the island are invited to partake in the first annual Sip Shop Support.
“The ultimate goal of Sip Shop Support is to raise funds for the Campaign for the MUSC Shawn Jenkins Children’s Hospital. In support of this goal, we are launching this event where our community will come together to stroll Daniel Island, shop the local businesses, browse a variety of guest artisans from the Charleston area, and share food and drink...all while supporting a great cause,” says Lauren Hoffman, volunteer for the event.
The Daniel Island business district will be divided into four sections, each with its own entry point where shoppers will pay $5 to participate and will receive an entry wristband, reusable cup, shopping bag, and passport/map. Then shoppers will be free to explore the islands’ shopping and dining district, all while enjoying live music in several locations. Participating businesses will be clearly marked on the map, and will also stand out with balloons and signs at their door. While walking the event is certainly doable, a trolley service will be available to transport participants to the different sections.
As an incentive for the shoppers, many businesses participating will be running event specials and donating proceeds to the Children’s Hospital. It’s a win-win-win to be exact! Shoppers get deals, businesses get shoppers, and money is raised for a great cause.
Karen Elsey of Laura Alberts on Daniel Island came up with the event idea after hosting several home-based entrepreneur shopping events in the Island Park Room (Laura Alberts upstairs venue).
Seeing how successful her events turned out, she thought, “Why don’t we take this to the next level and include the entire Island. Daniel Island businesses can opt to host an entrepreneur inside their business or can opt to offer a nibble or a sip to attract shoppers to come inside their businesses to see what they are all about.”
While the evening is sure to provide fun for all, the ultimate goal is to raise money for the Children’s Hospital. The MUSC Shawn Jenkins Children’s Hospital is projected to open in 2019. “We have been amazed by the enthusiasm and support for this event by the Daniel Island business community. We are especially grateful to our partners and sponsors for their operational support of the event and for their direct contributions to the Campaign for the MUSC Shawn Jenkins Children’s Hospital,” added Hoffman.
