DI Garden Club is back in session, announces events

 
The Daniel Island Garden Club offers residents the opportunity to learn about gardening through speakers, field trips and other activities. 
 
This year the group was challenged with finding a new meeting location due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Beginning Sept. 16, meetings will be held at the Holy Cross Episcopal Church Parish Hall at 3 p.m. After Sept. 16, they resume a regular schedule on the second Wednesday of the month October through May.
 
Social distancing protocols will be observed and attendees must wear a mask.
 
Events scheduled include:
 
• Sept. 16:  Container Gardening with Houseplants, Carolyn Goff, Master Gardener
 
• Oct. 14: Monarch Butterflies, Billy McCord, Wildlife Biologist
 
• Nov. 11: Floral Arrangements & Holiday Decorating, Toni Reale, Roadside Blooms
 
• Dec. 3: Holiday Decoration Celebration, Joseph Manigault House field trip
 
• Dec. 9: Holiday Wreath Workshop, Kim Kolts
 
• January TBD: Vertical Gardening, Tony Bertauski, Trident Technical College
 
• Feb. 10: Camellias, Chris Burtt, Clemson Horticulture Agent; Mike Denson, Camellia grower
 
• March 10: Native Plants, David Manger, Roots & Shoots
 
• April 14: MUSC Urban Farm & Kitchen, Field Trip
 
• May 12: Garden Tour Social, Plant & Pot Swap
 
The club also participates in community projects such as volunteering at the Daniel Island School and the Community Osprey Trail garden, along with the Yard of the Month gardening and holiday decorating selections.
