DI girls invited to free 'Junior Girls Day Out' program

Attention Daniel Island girls, aged 7 to 14! A special event geared towards helping you explore your future career goals and awaken your entrepreneurial talents is coming to Daniel Island on Tuesday, May 2.

Want to learn how to be a fashion designer at WHITE’s bridal salon? Or what it takes to be a chef at Laura Albert’s Tasteful Options? How about trying your hand at crafting creative cupcakes at Publix? All are part of the packed line-up of activities planned for the Junior Girls Day Out Community Project, an initiative that provides education, career, personal, social and cultural development for girls. All programs are free and provided for by sponsors.

The Daniel Island event will focus on “mathematics, economics and money” and is being held in celebration of National Small Business Week. The fun kicks off at Laura Albert’s at 3 p.m. with a program entitled “Write the Vision” presented by millionaire Carolyn Hunter, who will serve as guest speaker. Participants will then join in enrichment activities, money management sessions, radio commercial designing, business plan development, and more.

In addition to WHITE, Laura Albert’s and Publix, girls will take part in hands-on career building sessions with Red Iron Architects, Truphonic Recording Studio, Indie Books Unleashed, KLJ Enterprises, Fit Culture, Designs by Fisher, Tropical Smoothie Cafe, Rosenblum Coe Architects, Photos by Glenna, and The Ink & I T-Shirt Company.

The Junior Girls Day Out Project has sponsored over 300 events for more than 4,000 tri-county students since 2007.

Community business sponsorships in the amount of $50 per student are still needed for the Daniel Island program. Contributors will be promoted in media releases, school and parent emails, on the organization’s website, social media communications, and the program’s business directory. To register a student, to become a business sponsor, or for more information visit www.juniorgirlsdayout.org (scroll down and click on the Charleston, SC link) or call (843) 864-3399.
