APRIL 13, 2006: 
 
The cover depicted tennis player, Justine Henin. At the time, the 23-year-old Belgian tennis star was a heavy favorite after winning the trophy three previous times at the Family Circle Cup. However, the outcome was not in her favor. The winner that year was Nadia Petrova.
 
In island news, Steve Livingston, with the City of Charleston parks department at the time, promised Daniel Islanders that more playground equipment would be added to the island’s parks.  
 
In business news, SunTrust Bank, headquartered in Atlanta, opened its doors on Daniel Island.
 
APRIL 14, 2011:
 
“Passport to Daniel Island” was launched on Daniel Island during the Family Circle Cup. According to island resident Steve Ferber, who crafted the initiative with fellow islander Colby Hollifield, the Passport Program was designed to introduce area residents to all that the island has to offer – at the time – 16 restaurants, plus dozens of shops and exceptional service providers. 
 
In business news, American Benefit Services, an insurance and financial services marketing organization focused primarily on serving senior citizens, would be bringing 50 employees to the island. ABS was founded in New Jersey by John Stratton.
 
APRIL 14, 2016:
 
The paper featured Daniel Island residents Bill and Catherine Read, who had signed on as volunteers for the International Justice Mission about 15 years prior. Passionate about the cause, the pair worked to bring a “Charleston Concert for Justice” event to the Lowcountry as part of the IJM 2016 Art Music Justice Tour that year. 
 
In sports news, American tennis player Sloane Stephens won the 2016 Volvo Car Open. 
 
In business news, Fit Culture opened its doors. The fitness studio offered classes such as power yoga, cardio kick-boxing, interval training, pilates stick, barre and more. The studio has since closed.
