Their property was rated as a Backyard Wildlife Habitat site. Another story spotlighted Fisher Recycling, Inc., which was first founded in 1992 to serve the commercial sector of the metro area of Charleston. In 2004, the company had been collecting recycling from the curbside on Daniel Island for over a year and a half as part of a pilot residential program. They recycle for offices, restaurants, hotels and offer on- and off-site shredding for confidential materials.

In other news, there was an op-ed urging the elimination of mini-bottles, a full-page of Island Life photos featuring spring scenes, and it was reported that Dragon Palace celebrated their one-year anniversary.

Recently, a new non-profit organization, Adaptive Gardens of the Lowcountry (AGL), sprouted from that relationship, she said. Part of the Coastal Community Foundation, Baldwin’s AGL operates alongside Our Local Foods to provide special opportunities for mild to moderately disabled young adults.”

In other news, there was an article featuring a fencing program at the Daniel Island School run by island resident Thad Schmenk. Several local programs relating to Earth Day were also spotlighted in the issue, including a recycling story written by Aidan Gowe, a second grader at the time.

Also in the news, John Tecklenburg, a former Daniel Island resident and business owner, announced his run for mayor of Charleston. He is our current mayor now.
