TEN YEARS AGO - Daniel Island School fills Santa's sleigh with 'Toys for Tots'

In the December 21, 2006 edition of the paper the top news story was the unveiling of the Toys for Tots drive at the first year of the Daniel Island School. Hundreds of students in grades K-8 gathered in the school’s Multi-Purpose Room to celebrate their efforts for the cause. The school was able to purchase 65 bikes with money collected during the campaign, which is part of a national program sponsored by the U.S. Marine Corps.

In the “What I do” column we featured Sue Ann Bobola, a dental hygienist, whose “pearly smile and infectious laugh,” we wrote, were a “perfect fit at Dr. Mike Bannister’s dental clinic on Seven Farms Drive.”

FIVE YEARS AGO - DI Incredibly Fortunate

In the December 22, 2011 edition of the paper we reported on Daniel Island Company President Matt Sloan’s optimistic outlook for Daniel Island. Back in 2011, the edition of the paper was only 24 pages, a sign of the struggling economy, but Sloan noted that Daniel Island real estate sales were up 20 percent over the previous year. Also at that time, Sloan said there was still a permit and goal in place for a marina near Children’s Park, but the proposal had been scaled down from the original plan.

Our centerfold featured various holiday shopping options on Daniel Island.
