FIFTEEN YEAR AGO
In the July 7, 2005, edition the cover and centerfold featured the new community board members of the Daniel Island Community Fund and highlighted how it was improving life on the Cainhoy peninsula.
In school news, the new K-8 school on the island was named the Daniel Island School (beating out Bridge View School), and its chosen mascot, the Osprey, beat out second choice – the Stingrays. Just think, your kids could be attending the Bridge View School and you could be cheering for the Stingrays.
TEN YEARS AGO
In the July 8, 2010, edition the cover article reported the timetable for breaking ground, construction and completion of Governors Park. The park was slated for completion in September of 2011.
In business news, the Pilates V studio moved to a larger location on Daniel Island (but has since closed its doors) and Hilton Gardens was expecting the go ahead to build on Daniel Island by the end of the year. The project did not happen.
FIVE YEARS AGO
The cover of the July 9, 2015, edition featured a photo of some local kids enjoying Enos (lightweight nylon hammocks) in their backyard. An article covered the City of Charleston ban on hammocks from public parks, citing potential damage to trees. City of Charleston arborist Danny Burbage suggested that even though people using Enos have no intent on hurting trees, there is evidence that they cause damage.
The centerspread was a picture collage of the Fourth of July festivities on Daniel Island.
Also in the news, there was an update on the construction progress of the Philip Simmons High School and Middle school on a 178,000-square-foot area off Clements Ferry Road.
