TEN YEARS AGO - Behind the scenes at the DI News
In the March 8, 2008 edition of the paper we reported on how the paper is produced each week, from idea inception to completed product. Production of the paper involves a lot of planning, writing, photography, selling and designing ads, graphic layout and distribution.
FIVE YEARS AGO - DI targets business health in 2012
In the March 8, 2012 edition of the paper, our centerfold story featured an outline of goals for injecting new energy and vitality into the island’s business community by Matt Sloan, Daniel Island Company president, and Jimmy Bailey, then vice president of community services for the Property Owners Association. Presented at the Daniel Island Neighborhood Association meeting, the duo provided an update assessment of the business community, including an announcement of the proposed CrossFit Discover/Peace Love Hip Hop studio planned for Pier View Street and the “Shop Local, Shop Daniel Island” street flags, an initiative designed to encourage support of local businesses.
In school news, “Coach Spag” (Jason Spagnolia) was named Daniel Island School’s 2011-12 Teacher of the Year. At the time he was named, Spagnolia had been teaching physical education at DIS since its inaugural year in 2006.
And, in sports, the BE girls basketball team won the state title (an achievement they just repeated in 2017 - see pages 21 and 23).
