FIFTEEN YEARS AGO

In the Nov. 18, 2004 edition of the paper, the cover and centerfold featured international adoptions and the Daniel Island connection, including profiles of the Santi and Flood families.

In top news, former Lt. Blake announced that the police department was moving into its offices at the new Municipal Building on Daniel Island.

Also, the Girl Scouts held their first formational meeting for Daniel Island troops.

Island Life photos included: Buck Buchanan as Howard Stern at the Providence Baptist Church’s Fall Festival, island visitors enjoying lunch and a bike stroll at a Daniel Island park, and the staff at Dr. Basha’s office.

TEN YEARS AGO

In the Nov. 19, 2009 edition of the paper, the centerfold feature, titled Thanksgiving Redux, involved island resident and food reporter Lee Picciuto sharing recipes and ideas for simplifying the holiday meal.

In island news, plans for a new senior affordable housing complex at the corner of Seven Farms Drive and Daniel Island Drive called for a 42-unit building to be placed near the tree line at the side of the lot. The complex, a Humanities Foundation initiative, was planned to join the existing 305 Seven Farms Drive apartment community.

In honor of Veterans Day, the Rotary Club of Daniel Island hosted Ed Flanders, a WWII veteran and former prisoner of war of the Germans, who spoke about his experiences.

FIVE YEARS AGO

The cover and feature article of the Nov. 20, 2014 edition of the paper was about Daniel Island resident Max Bodach — a sophomore at Bishop England High School who won the South Carolina Press Association’s 2014 “It Can Wait” texting-and-driving essay contest.

The centerspread listed reader’s tips, tricks, and tales of turkey trauma in anticipation of the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday. Those hosting guests were advised to start tidying up the house seven days before the holiday, or do little bits of cleaning each week prior to Thanksgiving, or to just keep the parts of the house “that show” clean and ready.

In election news, Daniel Island resident Mac McQuillin hit the ground running at his first official board meeting, after being sworn in as a representative for Berkeley County School Board District 2.
