FIFTEEN YEARS AGO
 
In the Nov. 23, 2005, edition, the cover and centerfold shared Daniel Island Blessings: Residents and ministers gave thanks at the ninth Annual Blessing of Daniel Island, held at Providence Baptist Church; and two families shared their adoption stories – the Emerson family and the Stelljes family.
 
There was an article about archeologist Ralph Bailey, who spoke to the Daniel Island Business Association at their monthly meeting. His talk was about how archeologists had excavated a Native American site on Daniel Island in 2003, one of which contained evidence of several houses, a corn crib, garbage pits, and hearths. 
 
In other news, the Tiny Tot Olympics were held at Etiwan Park and were organized by Amy Parr of Stroller Striders and the Charleston City Park staff.
 
TEN YEARS AGO
 
In the Nov. 24, 2010, edition, local islanders giving back to their community were featured: DI based Structures Building Company teamed with ECCO and Operation Home, with help from the DI Community Fund, to help Cainhoy resident Maria Fishburne with much needed home improvements; Charleston Basket Brigade (formed in part by islander Pam Hartley) raised over $48,840 to feed 1,600 families for Thanksgiving, and DI residents worked to launch the Volunteer Center of Charleston.
 
In business news, Dustin Welch and Jacob Irvin opened Buzz Delivery, a delivery service for Daniel Island residents; John Cogan opened GoodNoise, a digital marketing company; and CrossFit Discovery doubled its gym space on Island Park Drive (and has since moved to Pier View Street).
 
FIVE YEARS AGO
 
The cover and centerfold of the Nov. 26, 2015, edition featured quotes from readers about what they were thankful for.
 
One article acted as a PSA announcement for residents: Don’t throw wipes in the toilet! Water Missions communications director Jenny Craft explained in the article that the island had suffered several sewer overflows caused by “masses of wipes that clogged pumps” at the wastewater pump station on Daniel Island.
 
Also in the news, Home Telecom announced the launch of gigabit internet speed to Daniel Island residents and businesses. At the time, William S. Helmly, president and COO of Home Telecom, said among the benefits of Velocity Gigabit would be lightning fast Internet, streaming video, online gaming with no lag, uploads to the cloud for backup and transferring large files instantly.
