FIFTEEN YEARS AGO
In the Nov. 4, 2004, edition of the paper, the cover and centerfold featured the first anniversary of The Daniel Island News as well as the impact of the World Wide Web on the growth of island businesses.
It was reported that Home Telecom celebrated its grand opening, officially taking the helm from Daniel Island Media as the new island provider of cable, internet and phone services.
Island Life photos included a Halloween photo of 18-month-old Joseph Busceti as a little bee with his parents, PJ and Holly; as well as a photo of Noel Merrill, Anne Medio, Tony Medio and Franklin Medio in line to cast their vote on Election Day 2004.
TEN YEARS AGO
In the Nov. 5, 2009, edition of the paper, the cover stories revolved around the rebuilding efforts of the fire-ravaged home of Summar and Peter Phillips at 1417 Hooper Street, and the presentation to the Daniel Island Business Association by Lt. Christine Middleton and Cpl. Jeffrey Soniak of Team 5 about burglaries, golf carts rules, parking on the wrong side of the street, and other police issues concerning Daniel Island.
In top news, local cancer survivors and young island residents Eli Crowley and Ella King were set to participate in the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Light The Night Walk.
The centerfold featured Veterans Day and a story about a Daniel Island Civil War veteran.
FIVE YEARS AGO
In the Nov. 6, 2014, edition of the paper, there was an article honoring local veterans, including letters written from students at the Daniel Island School (DIS) thanking veterans.
In other news, the South Carolina State Ports Authority cleared a new path to access the nearly 500 acres of prime Daniel Island land they were selling. The wide path into the parcel began at the end of Dunham Street in Cochran Park for the purposes of “land stewardship.”
Island Life pages featured photos from Park Day, the children’s character parade at DIS, and the DIBA Block Party.
