FIFTEEN YEARS AGO

In the October 21, 2004 edition of the paper, the cover and centerfold featured the Race for the Cure and Park Day, which were held on the same day. The 2004 Park Day events were held at various parks on Daniel Island, including Barfield Park, Pierce Park and Children’s Park.

In community news, the Island Life page featured action and crowd shots from the Bishop England vs. Hanahan football game as well as photos from Moo-Na Lisa Gourmet Ice Cream shop, and of Evan Gilbert on the slide at Codner’s Ferry Park.

TEN YEARS AGO

In the October 22, 2009 edition of the paper, the centerfold featured the Nationwide Tour and all the volunteers needed to bring it to Daniel Island (over 500), including Bill and Carol Slater, Petey Haas, Judy Burnstein, Eileen Cieslak, and Marilyn Daly, who were pictured in the story.

In business news, the Daniel Island Pharmacy announced it would close.

Island Life featured a full page of Race for the Cure photos as well as a full spread about the Daniel Island Harvest Tour of Homes.

In sports, the winners of the Race for the Cure were recognized and a story discussed how golf can keep players fit.

FIVE YEARS AGO

The cover and centerspread in the October 23, 2014 issue of the paper included photos from the Race for the Cure. Daniel Islanders and many more were decked out in pink to show support for breast cancer awareness.

Also in the news, Jennifer Roberts shared her message to encourage the DI community to take part in Operation Christmas Child, a program run by Samaritan’s Purse, a non-denominational evangelical Christian organization providing spiritual and physical aid to hurting people around the world.

In politics, the Berkeley County School Board candidates fielded parent questions at a forum held at the Daniel Island School. Daniel Island residents Rindy Ryan and Mac McQuillin were both vying for the position and had campaigns in full swing touting their skill sets for the job.
