FIFTEEN YEARS AGO
The cover and centerspread of the Sept. 8, 2005 edition focused on addiction and recovery. One article included a list of local recovery programs.
In other news, in an effort to celebrate Grandparents Day, which fell that year on Sept. 11, the DI News asked readers to submit pictures and stories of grandparents to be featured in future editions.
There also was information published on Hurricane Katrina relief efforts involving the island and the Lowcountry.
TEN YEARS AGO
The main headline for Sept. 9, 2010 edition was the new crosswalk planned for a busy intersection on Daniel Island. The crosswalk would be placed at the intersection of Pier View Street and Seven Farms Drive. Also included in that article was news about speed limit reductions on Seven Farms Drive.
The centerspread was a preview of the Daniel Island Harvest Tour of Homes and featured the houses on the tour.
In other news, Yards of the Month winners were published for the month of September.
FIVE YEARS AGO
The cover and centerspread of the Sep. 10, 2015 edition featured boot camp fitness classes that took place in Smythe Park. At the time, there were four or five different groups that would meet in the park to take part in boot camp style workouts.
In political news, two more candidates were profiled in the mayoral race — Maurice Washington and Leon Stavrinakis. They were asked a number of questions, including why they were running, what they could bring to the table if elected, what they saw as Charleston’s greatest challenges, and how they planned to respond to specific needs on Daniel Island.
In other news, Tim Boyle, longtime Berkeley County Library employee, was named the branch manager at the DI location.
