September 7, 2006:
The top stories revolved around the affordable housing options and progress on the island: the 72-unit Seven Farms Village apartment complex was under construction and was geared toward families making up to 50% of the median income. The Parkside Condominiums were geared toward families making 100% to 150% of the area’s median family income and the Blakeway Street apartments were geared toward individuals or families making no less than 80% to no more than 150% of the area’s median income. Additionally, it was reported that the Daniel Island Business Association launched an “information drive” to publicize affordable housing opportunities for island employees.
September 8, 2011:
The feature article was a tribute to Sept. 11, 2001, including sharing reader memories, historical information and photographs from various national and private archives. This weekend will mark the 20th anniversary of the attack.
In an article intending to help parents keep kids active outside of school hours, after-school programs were listed. From dance, art, sports and theatre, there were about a dozen programs listed.
In other news, the Daniel Island Rotary Club celebrated its 10-year anniversary.
September 8, 2016:
Daniel Island Beach/River Sweep volunteers collected trash from the island’s coastline as part of a statewide clean-up effort. All total, nearly 14 tons of litter were removed from 181 miles of beach along the South Carolina coastline.
The centerfold was a Q&A with Kevin and Catherine Brookes about the new season of WyldLife kicking off at their Daniel Island home. The Brookes helped launch the faith-based program for middle school kids on Daniel Island in 2009.
