DI teens lead riverside clean-up!

Daniel Island’s riverside trails and marsh areas are a bit cleaner – thanks to recent efforts led by island residents Nick DeFazio and Mason Jordahl, both students at Christ Our King – Stella Maris School. DeFazio and a team of 16 other volunteers conducted a trash sweep of the trail area between Pierce Park Pool and the Daniel Island Sales Center on January 21. The next day, Jordahl and teammates Felix Fryman and Ian Jacobs targeted additional areas along the Wando River shoreline. DeFazio and Jordahl completed the work as part of a school project. Together, both crews netted 27 bags of trash!

“We were able to collect 14 bags of trash, as well as large pieces of wood and other debris,” said DeFazio of his team’s efforts. “There were bottles, paper, glass, foam, cardboard, and plywood scattered throughout the marsh. The clean-up not only helped the environment, but also brought people together. It was a blast!...Keep your eyes open for the next beach sweep.”
