DI teens to perform in 'Beauty and the Beast' production this weekend

The Disney classic “Beauty and the Beast” is coming to the Mount Pleasant-based Footlight Players Theatre this weekend - and several Daniel Island teens will be among those hitting the stage for the production.

Teen company performers who train at Musical Theatre Center (MTC), the Lowcountry’s only musical theatre conservatory, will perform the show at 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. on July 22 and 23. Among the award-winning cast will be Daniel Island residents Lexi Widenhouse as “Lumiere,” Ainsley Western as “Belle” (Sunday show), and Julian Nguyen as the “Book Seller.” The show is a musical adaptation of the classic Disney film.

MTC recently won the “Outstanding Performance” award at the iTheatrics Junior Theatre Festival, an annual international youth theatre convention comprised of over 6,000 competitors. Since 2015, MTC has selected a charitable organization to benefit from their productions in an effort to connect the actors to the greater significance of each performance, stated a press release. The cast of “Beauty and the Beast” has chosen to provide books for Charleston’s local chapter of Reading Partners.
