DIPAC Advisory Board shares reasons for involvement

The behind-the-scenes movement to bring a Daniel Island Performing Arts Center (DIPAC) to the community continues to push forward.

Project visionary Mary Gould reported to The Daniel Island News last week that they have retained a real estate attorney to begin preparations for an expected July closing on the land for the facility, which will be located on Island Park Drive. In addition, the DIPAC team has initiated a search for a development director to run the project’s capital campaign. Early fundraising has been good, added Gould, and opportunities for participation in the DIPAC “Founder’s Circle” will continue until May 15.

Several Daniel Island residents, business owners and other community members have signed on to participate in efforts to bring the facility to the island by joining the DIPAC Advisory Board. The Daniel Island News recently asked members to share what motivated them to get involved. Kicking off a multi-week series on the topic are Ruthie Hill, Linda Walder, and Jan Studin.

What motivated you to become a member of the Daniel Island Performing Arts Center Advisory Board and a DIPAC supporter?

“DIPAC will be a valuable asset not only for Daniel Island but also for South Carolina as the state’s only theater that will be an incubator for Broadway productions as a member of the prestigious League of Regional Theaters (LORT)! This is the moment to become a Founder of DIPAC and we are not going to wait and miss the opportunity. We view it as an investment in our community’s cultural future that will pay dividends for years to come.”
-Linda Walder

“I am extremely excited about the opportunity for a LORT theatre to be a part of my community on Daniel Island. Because I am quite familiar with the Arena Stage and Ford’s Theatre in Washington, DC., both of which belong to the League of Resident Theatres. I am very confident that DIPAC will offer the same level of entertainment and education to the residents of the Charleston area. Bring it on!”
-Ruthie Hille

“I’m passionate and excited about bringing an actor’s equity theatre to Daniel Island and the Charleston community. This would be the first LORT in South Carolina, and will be an incredible forum to bring world class theatre and theatre education to Daniel Island and the city of Charleston. This is a community that is passionate, supportive and we need your support! I hope you will join our efforts as we move to provide and produce innovative and creative theatre to our wonderful community of Daniel Island, as well as the city of Charleston.” – Jan Studin
