DIPAC Advisory Board take the mic - Part 2

This week, we continue our series on the proposed Daniel Island Performing Arts Center (DIPAC) with feedback from those who are working to bring the landmark new facility to the island. According to the project’s website (www.danielislandpac.com), the center will be a “premier art destination venue for regional theatre and performing arts in the Charleston area.”

Below, DIPAC Advisory Board Members Robin Fisher, Terry Haas, and Pete Harper share why they decided to join the effort to create South Carolina’s first League of Resident Theatre (LORT) sites on Daniel Island.

“I wanted to be involved because I would really like to have a regional performing arts center right down the street, similar to what I have enjoyed for 30 years in Atlanta, Georgia, with the Alliance Theater. Having this performing arts center with Broadway productions would be another feather in the DI cap! Hopefully there will be golf cart parking along with a bike rack!” -Robin Fisher

“I wanted to get involved because I think the DIPAC will be an amazing addition to our ‘DI lifestyle’ and an awesome opportunity for our residents. I am also a mother of young children who hopefully will love the arts as they grow up. Having it available here in the neighborhood is amazing.” -Terry Haas

“I got involved with Mary Gould and DIPAC because I believe the addition of a LORT- designated theater to the Daniel Island community would be a huge benefit to our local restaurant and retailer base. I also believe the island is in need of more civic and meeting space that can be used by the business community and residents. A 450 seat theater would add more diversity to our downtown.” -Pete Harper (former president of the Daniel Island Business Association)

The DIPAC is to be located on a site beside the UBS Building on Island Park Drive. Project visionary Mary Gould reported to The Daniel Island News that she expects to close on land for the facility in July. Plans for the center include a 450-seat Proscenium theatre, a 99-seat black box theatre, and indoor and outdoor plaza gathering spaces.
