Help ECCO assemble Hurricane Preparedness Kits!
With hurricane season upon us, being prepared is vital to the safety of citizens throughout the Charleston region, especially those served by East Cooper Community Outreach (ECCO).
This September, with the help from the community, ECCO will create and provide Hurricane Preparedness Kits for its clients.
There are many volunteer opportunities to make this goal a reality. Here are some practical ways you can be involved in assisting ECCO in this effort:
- Host a drive to collect the needed items
- Donate towards the effort
- Bring your kids to the Mount Pleasant Farmers Market or the ECCO Farmers Market to help us design and decorate the kits
- Help assemble the 300+ kits
- Volunteer to help distribute the kits to our neighbors
ECCO will be accepting donations until Sept. 18 at its location on Six Mile Road in Mount Pleasant. You can also visit one of the events listed in the sidebar to this article to help decorate/design and assemble the kits. To sign up to participate, simply follow the steps below:
1. Sign Up! Register yourself, your group or family to participate in this effort. Visit https://www.allforgood.org/projects/78eKpRkp to sign up now!
2. ECCO staff will contact you to find out the way(s) you’d like to volunteer and help you get started.
3. Play your role in making this effort a possibility! Below are supplies needed for the hurricane ready kits. The Daniel Island Property Owners Association, 130 River Landing Drive, is serving as a collection point for donations.
- 300 boxes
- Flashlights
- Candles
- Matches
- Extra batteries (C & AA size preferred)
- Plastic tarp
- Duct tape
- Scissors
- First aid kits
- Deck of cards
- Hygiene kits
