Land use and zoning activities on Daniel Island

These are the issues being brought before the various City of Charleston boards and committees that are specific to land use and zoning on Daniel Island. All meetings are open for public comment except the TRC meetings. City of Charleston Technical Review Committee (TRC) — At the next meeting on June 13, the concept plan for Cainhoy South Hopewell Residential will be discussed.

City of Charleston Board of Zoning Appeals – Site Design (BZA-SD) — At the most recent meeting on June 5, among the items discussed were the request for a variance from Sec. 54-327 to allow the removal of 46 grand trees and a request for a variance from Sec. 54-330 to allow a reduced impervious construction setback near the bases of 13 grand trees on Clements Ferry Road and the request for a variance from Sec. 54-327 to allow the removal of one grand tree at 145 Nobels Point Street. Approval was granted for 34 grand trees on Clements Ferry Road to come down for a mixed use development. In addition, the applicant must plant 791 caliper (tree trunk diameter) inches of native canopy trees on the project site, they must use a four-foot chain-link fence as tree protection barricades, they must maintain additional non-grand trees in the larger tree save areas, and they must have a certified arborist treat and prune the protected trees. The next meeting will be held on July 3; the agenda is not yet published.

City of Charleston Board of Zoning Appeals – Zoning (BZA-Z) — The next meeting will be held on June 18; the agenda is not yet published.

City of Charleston Design Review Board (DRB) — At the next meeting on June 17, the request for conceptual approval for a new two-story mixed-use building at River Landing Village will be discussed.

City of Charleston Planning Commission (PC) — At the next meeting on June 19, the request for subdivision concept plan approval at Jack Primus Road and at Cainhoy South Hopewell Residential will be discussed.
