Land use and zoning activities on Daniel Island

These are the issues being brought before the various City of Charleston boards and committees that are specific to land use and zoning on Daniel Island. City of Charleston Technical Review Committee (TRC) — At the Feb. 8 meeting, the committee asked that the site plans for the new Daniel Island Recreation Center be revised and resubmitted, and are requiring various applications, fees, and checklists, including a traffic impact study, to be done. At the next meeting on Feb. 15, the committee will hear about the River Landing Village subdivision’s concept plan for 31 parcels with public streets and associated improvements.

City of Charleston Board of Zoning Appeals – Site Design (BZA-SD) — At the Feb. 7 meeting, the committee discussed requests for parking variances on Fairchild Street. The next meeting will take place on March 7. The agenda is not yet published.

City of Charleston Board of Zoning Appeals – Zoning (BZA-Z) — The next meeting will be held on Feb. 20. No issues of impact to Daniel Island are on the agenda.

City of Charleston Design Review Board (DRB) — At the most recent meeting on Feb. 5, the board approved the preliminary plans for construction of a new commercial office and retail building at 297 Seven Farms Dr. with minimal comments. The board also approved the conceptual site plan for the new recreational facility on Fairbanks Drive, but asked for a clear idea on the landscaping concept. The next meeting will be held on Feb. 20. No issues of impact to Daniel Island are on the agenda.

City of Charleston Planning Commission (PC) — The next meeting will be on Feb. 21. The agenda is not yet published.
