Land use and zoning activities on Daniel Island
These are the issues being brought before the various City of Charleston boards and committees that are specific to land use and zoning on Daniel Island. All meetings are open for public comment except the TRC meetings. For more information on any of these proposed actions, including location and time of meetings, please email email@example.com.
City of Charleston Technical Review Committee (TRC) — At the Aug. 8 meeting, committee members asked that the subdivision concept plan for 62 lots on Lesesne Street on Daniel Island; the site plan for grading, parking, and stormwater improvements for an existing parking lot at 146 Fairchild Street; the road construction plans for road modification of Daniel Island Parcel X1 on Pierce Street; and the site plan for a two-story commercial building at 890 Island Park Drive be revised and resubmitted. At the next meeting on Aug. 15, the construction plans for a mixed-use development and associated improvements at River Landing Village Phase 1 will be discussed.
City of Charleston Board of Zoning Appeals – Site Design (BZA-SD) — At the most recent meeting on Aug. 7, the request for a variance to allow the removal of one grand tree at 145 Nobels Point on Daniel Island and the request for a one-year extension to the variances granted on Aug. 3, 2017 for the removal of four grand trees and reduced impervious construction setback near the bases of 17 grand trees at Oak Bluff development on Clements Ferry Road were discussed. At press time, the minutes from that session had not yet been posted on the City’s website. The next meeting will be held on September 4. The agenda is not yet published.
City of Charleston Board of Zoning Appeals – Zoning (BZA-Z) — At the next meeting on Aug. 20, the request for a variance from Sec. 54-823 Daniel Island Master Plan zoning regulations to allow construction of a single-family residence that does not meet front setback line requirements at 1872 Beekman Street will be discussed.
City of Charleston Design Review Board (DRB) — At the most recent meeting on Aug. 5, the request for conceptual approval for the construction of a music performance venue and retail space at 890 Island Park Drive was approved; the request for preliminary approval for the construction of a two-story mixed-use building at River Landing Village was approved; and the request for preliminary review for the construction of a Marriott hotel on Fairchild Street was approved with staff comments regarding the landscaping and incorporating the Daniel Island ARB’s letter dated July 31, 2019 into the motion. The next meeting will be held on Aug. 19 with no issues of impact to Daniel Island/Cainhoy to be discussed.
City of Charleston Planning Commission (PC) — The next meeting will be held on Aug. 21; the agenda is not yet published.
