Land use and zoning activities on Daniel Island

These are the issues being brought before the various City of Charleston boards and committees that are specific to land use and zoning on Daniel Island. All meetings are open for public comment except the TRC meetings. City of Charleston Technical Review Committee (TRC) — At the Nov. 21 meeting, the construction plans for a multi-family development (Hawthorne) on Clements Ferry were asked to be revised and resubmitted, and the construction plans for the mixed-use development at Parkline Avenue on Daniel Island were asked to be revised and resubmitted. At the next meeting on Dec. 5, the preliminary subdivision plat for Oak Bluff on Clements Ferry Road will be discussed. The TRC meets at 9 a.m., first floor, 2 George Street.

City of Charleston Board of Zoning Appeals – Site Design (BZA-SD) — At the Dec. 4 meeting, the request for a variance to allow the removal of 11 protected trees on Seven Farms Drive, submitted by the Bishop of Charleston for the future site of St. Clare Catholic Church, and the request for a variance to allow a reduced sidewalk width will be discussed. The meeting will be held at 5 p.m. in the Public Meeting Room, First Floor, 2 George Street.

City of Charleston Board of Zoning Appeals – Zoning (BZA-Z) — The next meeting will be held on Dec. 3; the agenda is not yet published.

City of Charleston Design Review Board (DRB) — At the Nov. 18 meeting, the request for preliminary approval for the construction of a new church to replace the existing church at 2810 Clements Ferry Road was given preliminary approval. The next meeting will be held on Dec. 2 with no issues of impact to Daniel Island or Cainhoy to be discussed.

City of Charleston Planning Commission (PC) — At the Nov. 20 meeting, the request for approval of the subdivision concept plan at Northern Parcel FF on Daniel Island was approved, and the request for approval of an ordinance providing for an amendment to the Daniel Island Master Plan zoning text was approved. The next meeting will be held on Dec. 18; the agenda is not yet published.
