Land use and zoning activities on Daniel Island

These are the issues being brought before the various City of Charleston boards and committees that are specific to land use and zoning on Daniel Island and Cainhoy. All meetings are open for public comment except the TRC meetings. For more information on any of these proposed actions, including location and time of meetings, please email DanielIslandNeighborhood@gmail.com.

City of Charleston Technical Review Committee (TRC): The next meeting will be held on Feb. 13 with no issues of impact to Daniel Island or Cainhoy to be discussed.

City of Charleston Board of Zoning Appeals – Site Design (BZA-SD): The next meeting will be held on Mar. 4. The agenda is not yet published. At the last meeting, the board approved removal of a 24-inch Blackgum tree and denied a request to remove 15-inch Red Oak at 12 Dalton Street.

City of Charleston Board of Zoning Appeals – Zoning (BZA-Z): The next meeting will be held on Feb. 18 with one issue of impact to Daniel Island or Cainhoy to be discussed: A request for a variance at 104 Cartwright Street to allow a garage addition that is 12 feet behind the front setback line. (Ordinance requires garage to be located at least 20 feet behind front setback line.)

City of Charleston Design Review Board (DRB): The next meeting will be held on Feb. 18, with no issues of impact to Daniel Island or Cainhoy to be discussed.

City of Charleston Planning Commission (PC): The next meeting will be held on Feb. 19, with one issue of impact to Daniel Island to be discussed: An ordinance to amend the Daniel Island Master Plan Section 3.2(4)(2)(7) by deleting “or day care facilities” and adding a new section that says “day care facility.”
