What’s happening at the Daniel Island Library?

CHILDREN’S STORYTIME
Mondays at 10:30 a.m. and 11 a.m.

NEW! SC BAR ASSOCIATION LAW SERIES
Mondays, 6 to 7:30 p.m. March 13: End of Life Issues; March 27: Wills, Estates and Probate; and April 17: Consumer Law. The Pro Bono Program is made possible through an IOLTA grant from the South Carolina Bar Foundation.

CULTURAL LITERACY
Wednesdays, through May 24, 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Join Professor Hillyer Rudisill for weekly lectures and discussions on varied topics that make up cultural literacy.

“WHAT IN THE WORLD?”
Thursdays, March 2 – 30, 10:15-11:15 a.m. Dr. Lester Pittman will lead a weekly discussion on world history and current events based on the book and video series, Civilization: The West and the Rest by historian Niall Ferguson.

MASTER GARDENER Q & A DESK
Every first Monday, 4 - 6 p.m. March 6: Trained and Certified Clemson Extension Tri-County Master Gardener volunteers will be on hand answer questions about lawns, trees, shrubs, flowers, vegetables and all aspects of gardening.

NEW! OUTSMARTING SCAMMERS
Tuesday, March 7, 10:30 a.m. – 12 p.m. Incidents of fraud are on the rise. Join us and pick up some important strategies to help protect yourself.

NEW! NATIVE REPTILES WITH CYPRESS GARDENS
Wednesday, March 8, 1:30 - 2:30 p.m. Meet Elizabeth from Cypress Gardens and some of her reptile friends that live here in the Lowcountry.

NEW! NATURE WALK
Friday, March 10, 10-11 a.m. Put on your sneakers and join Master Naturalist Katie Ellis for an educational stroll on the trails around the library.

NEW! GENTLE YOGA
Wednesdays, 12 to 1 p.m., March 15, March 22, April 5, and April 12. Diane Zalka, E-RYT, will offer a gentle yoga class sitting in a chair or on a mat that will be accessible to all.

NEW! WELLNESS BEYOND 50
“How to Make Great Health Habits Stick”
Wednesday, March 15, 1:30 – 3 p.m. Join health coach Lisa Burbage who will empower you to enjoy wellness beyond age 50!

NEW! FRIDAY FUN
March 17, 10:30 to 12 p.m. Once a month, we craft something recycling old books. This month we will be making paper flowers. Please register due to limited space by calling (843) 471-2952.

NEW! BICYCLE TUNE UP CLINIC
Saturday, March 18, 10 – 11 a.m. Cooper River Cycles will offer instruction in basic bicycle maintenance and emergency repairs.

NEW! GENEALOGY RESEARCHING
Monday, March 20, 1 – 3 p.m. Experts from the Family History Center of Charleston are back again to help you begin or continue collecting ancestral information and researching on the internet. Did you know that the library has Ancestry.com free for you to use? Just come to the library, log on to a computer and start your family search.

COOKBOOK CLUB
Every fourth Thursday. March 23, 2- 3 p.m. Are you a cookbook lover? Join us and discover delicious family-friendly meals from around the world to share.

NEW! OUR SALT MARSH ECOSYSTEM
Wednesday, March 29, 1 – 3 p.m. Learn about the salt marsh and stewardship actions to help keep this resource healthy now and in the future.

NEW! PET FIRST AID & EMERGENCY CARE
Thursday, March 30, 1 – 3 p.m. Dr. Bridget Luke, DVM, will instruct us in the basics of emergency care and first aid for your pet.

TEEN/TWEEN HANGOUT

DI LIBRARY BOOK CLUB
Every third Tuesday, 10:30 - 11:30 a.m. March 21: Last Days of Light by Graham Moore; April 18: Underground Railroad by Colson Whitehall.

NEW DAY & TIME! PAWS FOR READING
Thursdays, 4:30 - 5:30 p.m. This program is to help children who are struggling with their reading skills by reading to a certified therapy dog.

RECORDER CLASS
Tuesdays, 2 - 3 p.m. For beginning or “rusty” adults and teens who want to learn to play in a group setting.

DI NEEDLEWORKERS
Second and fourth Tuesdays, 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. March 14 and 28. Bring your quilt, applique, embroidery, or any portable needle project and stay for a while to sew, make new friends and chat.

NEW DAY & TIME! WRITERS’ GROUP
Every first Wednesday, 4:30 – 6 p.m. March 1. Join local author, Crystal Klimavicz, at the Daniel Island Library to connect and share with other local authors and aspiring writers.
