What’s happening at the Daniel Island Library?

CHILDREN’S STORYTIME
We will be taking the month of May off, restarting in June.

PHILOSOPHY CLASS
Wednesdays from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. through May 24. Join Prof. Hillyer Rudisill for a free college-level course. Participants can attend at any time, each session stands on its own.

NEW! INVENTING AMERICA
Thursdays from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. May 18 through July 20. Starting with Ben Franklin, learn about the many influential figures who shaped our country from 1750-1830, such as John Adams, George Washington and John Marshall up to Alexis d'Tocqueville's democracy in America in a weekly discussion led by Dr. Lester Pittman. The class will not just explore biographical information, but how the leaders’ ideas and principles helped mold our coun-try. In addition, it could be a useful way to assess the claims by our contemporary leaders and pundits.

NEW! MASTER GARDENER Q & A DESK
Monday, May 1, from 4 to 6 p.m. Certified Master Gardener volunteers will be on hand to answer questions about lawns, trees, shrubs, flowers, vegetables, etc.

NEW! FOLK & FORGOTTEN MUSIC
Tuesday, May 23, from 2 to 3 p.m. The library’s “Recorder Ensemble” will present a short concert featuring folk tunes and music that was almost forgotten. Did you know that recorders come in different voices from soprano to bass? Come, enjoy the music and learn more about this fascinating instrument of old.

TAI CHI
Tuesdays and Fridays, from 9 to 10 a.m. An ancient form of exercise for all ages using slow, smooth body move-ments.

DI LIBRARY BOOK CLUB
Every third Tuesday, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. May 16 - “Hillbilly Elegy” by J.D. Vance. June 20 - “Small Great Things” by Jodi Picoult.

COOKBOOK CLUB
Every fourth Thursday. May 25 from 2 to 3 p.m. Discover delicious family friendly meals from around the world to share.

RECORDER CLASS
Tuesdays from 2 to 3 p.m. For beginning or “rusty” adults who want to learn to play in a group setting.

WRITERS’ GROUP
Every first Wednesday. May 3 from 4:30 to 6 p.m.

DI NEEDLEWORKERS
Second and fourth Tuesdays. May 9 and May 23, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
