Mystery Photo Contest - November 7, 2019

The winner of last week’s Mystery Photo Contest is Daniel Island resident Kate Altum, who correctly identified the subject in the photo as the osprey sculpture at Daniel Island School.

“We instantly knew this week’s mystery picture! My kids, Wade (6) and Nina (3), and I always enjoy guessing. We’ve entered a few times, but this is our first time winning!” said Kate, who is currently a stay-at-home mom but maintains her license as a Registered Nurse. The family moved to Daniel Island in 2015 and lives in the Smythe Park neighborhood.

“The sculpture pictured from the entrance to Daniel Island School is actually a piece created by dad, David Springer. He made it for the Daniel Island Garden Club in 2012, years before he had a grandchild living on Daniel Island. Having a piece of his art in our community in very meaningful to our family,” Kate said.

Her dad, David Springer, also weighed in on the photo and described the sculpture as a stainless steel and copper osprey landing on a stylized stainless steel nest perched in a hand-formed concrete tree. There is another osprey on the opposite side of the nest, standing guard.

The Altum family selected a $10 gift card to BEECH of Daniel Island as their prize.

It’s delightful to know the Mystery Photo Contest keeps families guessing together!
