Mystery Photo - November 22, 2018
In honor of the 15th anniversary of The Daniel Island News, we are bringing back a former favorite feature – the Mystery Photo Contest! Each week, we will print a photo of a scene or object found on Daniel Island. Guess what is depicted in the picture and send your response to mysterypic@thedanielislandnews.com by noon on Saturday. A winner will be chosen randomly from those who answer correctly and announced in the following week’s issue.
Daniel Island resident Virgil Virga guessed correctly in last week’s Mystery Photo Contest. Virgil identified the image in the photo as the walking/running trail guide post at the entrance to the long boardwalk over the marsh near Barfield Park Pavilion.
Virgil moved to Daniel Island from Ashburn, Virginia (located just outside of Washington DC) in April of 2014. He is a native Floridian, “so it was important for us to get back down further south to sun and palm trees,” he said. “So we chose paradise.”
This is the first time Virgil has participated in The Daniel Island News Mystery Photo Contest. The subject in the photo is something he frequently sees on the island, as he is an avid runner.
“I’ve run hundreds of miles all over DI,” added Virgil. “The trail to Children’s Park, over the long walking bridge from Barfield is one of my favorites. That’s where the photo of the trail post was taken, at the end of the bridge. The views and feeling of freedom I get sprinting across that stretch of bridge over the marsh is as breathtaking as it is exhilarating!”
