ECMOW GETS ALL-STAR ASSISTANCE

Major General James E. Livingston recently lent a hand to East Cooper Meals on Wheels, by assisting with deliveries.

On March 12, the decorated officer rode along with a volunteer driver, Merv, to deliver meals and visit with several military veteran recipients. Maj. Gen. Livingston retired from the Marine Corps in 1995 following over 33 continuous years on active duty. A native of Towns, Georgia, Livingston is a graduate of the Amphibious Warfare School, the Marine Corps Command and Staff College and the Air War College. His decorations include the Medal of Honor; Distinguished Service Medal; Silver Star Medal; Defense Superior Service Medal; Bronze Star Medal, with Combat “V”; Purple Heart, Third Award; Defense Meritorious Service Medal; Meritorious Service Medal, Second Award; and the Navy Commendation Medal, with Combat “V”. In 2018 he was awarded South Carolina’s highest honor, the Order of the Palmetto, by Gov. Henry McMaster.

During the Month of March, East Cooper Meals on Wheels will be celebrating “March for Meals,” an opportunity for the organization to share its story with friends both old and new. Meals on Wheels programs have come together, nationally, each March since 2002 to celebrate this effort to ensure that homebound neighbors are not forgotten. This month, East Cooper Meals on Wheels is offering an opportunity for those not familiar to be a “Community Champion” for a day and ride along with one of our volunteers as they deliver meals.
