Taking six youth crews to Platinum Dance Competition in Myrtle Beach March 19-20, Daniel Island dance studio Peace Love Hip Hop (PLHH) pretty well cleaned up. Performing multiple numbers apiece, PLHH girls and boys ranging in age from kindergarten to high school senior ran away with the lion’s share of the weekend’s coveted “Platinum Plus” adjudicated scores, reserved for near-perfect performances. Each age group earned Top Overall trophies as well, with several numbers also receiving Technique Awards, recognition that the competition outfit rarely hands out to hip hop routines. Capping off the awards ceremony, owner Angel Roberts learned that her studio had received the highest overall scoring for the entire regional competition, and graciously accepted the Top Studio award. “I feel like I am the luckiest person in the world,” she expressed in the direction of her dancers gathered onstage, “to be able to do what I do every day with all of you.”
