Police Blotter - November 1, 2018

The following cases were taken from City of Charleston Police reports filed with Team 5 on Daniel Island between October 3, 2018 and October 24, 2018.

VANDALISMS

Sometime between September 30 and October 3, in the Peninsula subdivision off Clements Ferry Road, an officer met with a victim at their place of work. The driver’s door of their vehicle had scratches and gouge marks. Nothing was taken from the vehicle and no further information was provided.

On October 10, a vandalism was reported to CPD. A man’s vehicle was parked in the first floor parking lot at his apartment complex on Daniel Island. The sideview mirror on the driver’s side was bent back and scratch marks were found on the vehicle.

At a storage facility on Daniel Island, between September 6 and October 12, a vandalism to a motor home occurred. The door to the vehicle had been damaged and the lock was pried open. The lock is inoperable. Access was not gained and nothing else was damaged on the vehicle.

Between the night of October 20 and October 21, a vehicle at a Daniel Island apartment complex had its tires slashed and a profanity marked onto the back of the car. Officers believe this is a targeted event, not a random incident.

BURGLARIES

Between October 3 and October 4, a CPD officer responded to reported vandalism at a Daniel Island storage facility. The victim said that a padlock had been cut on his utility vehicle. Several tools were stolen from his vehicle. Later in the day, an employee of the facility told police that padlocks on 13 units had been cut off. The case is still under investigation.

Between September 22 and October 4, officers responded to a call about a past burglary at a Seven Farms Drive residence. The victim claimed that her ex-boyfriend broke into the garage attached to her townhouse. Her golf cart and a drum set were vandalized. Items that belonged to the ex-boyfriend were missing. An arrest was made at a later date.

THEFTS FROM MOTOR VEHICLE

At a storage location on Daniel Island, a man reported a theft on October 7. The victim claimed that the recreation vehicle was entered in a fenced-in parking lot. The lock on the camper was functional. The suspect went through the vehicle’s contents, collected belongings, and stole a tool box. Some of the camper’s molding was damaged.

On October 15, a victim reported to Team 5 that someone had entered his unlocked vehicle in the Codner’s Ferry Park neighborhood and stole his wallet.

AGGRAVATED ASSAULT WITH A FIREARM

On the afternoon of October 19, officers reported to a gas station on Daniel Island, where a man claimed that he had a firearm pointed at him during a road rage incident. The offender seemed to be intoxicated, removed a small pistol from his waistband, and made a threatening remark. The offender fled from the gas station before officers arrived.

IMPERSONATION

On the morning of October 21, a woman reported a bill from a cell phone company in her name. The bill said that she opened an account for two phones and two smart watches. The victim saw on her credit report a charge for $2,000 from another cell phone company. She told officers that she did not open these accounts and did not authorize anyone to do so.

INTIMIDATION

Between October 7 and October 8, a woman reported that she was stalked by a man that she had been romantically involved with in the past. The victim advised that on September 29, the offender went to her house uninvited. They requested that the man be placed on trespass notice and the case is currently under investigation.

HARASSMENT

On October 15, a local woman reported a man that has stalked her for over 2 and half years. She has not responded to any of the calls and texts he’s left in this time. She ran into him one year ago at an island restaurant, where he approached her. Since then, there have been further unwelcome calls and texts.

FOUND PROPERTY

Two men in a ride-sharing vehicle were headed to a Daniel Island restaurant. After complaining about some pain, one of the men handed the other a white powder, which he inhaled. The car’s driver found a wallet and white powder covering the backseat. He reported the incident and the missing wallet to CPD on October 4.
