BP AMOCO PARTNERS WITH PSHS
In September of 2017, BP Amoco officially partnered with Philip Simmons High School (PSHS) through the Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce. After visiting the school and various CTE classrooms, they worked closely with teachers and administrators to determine specific needs and areas where they could provide the utmost support and help make a difference in the students’ education. On Jan. 12, BP Amoco made an $8,000 donation to the Computer Science, Networking/Engineering classes at PSHS, and a $1,500 donation to fund the first ever Robotics team. Because of their generous contributions, some of the school’s CTE programs will be able to purchase pieces of technology that will allow teachers to utilize the classroom to provide real-life experiences for students and better prepare them for the workforce.
DIS SIXTH GRADER WINS SPELLING BEE!
Daniel Island School sixth grader Gracie Reed beat out 41 other students for the top prize in the school’s middle school spelling bee last week. She captured the victory by correctly spelling the word “germinate.” No doubt her win has planted the seed for future spelling feats! Reed was scheduled to advance to the Berkeley County School District Spelling Bee on Jan. 24 at Berkeley High School. Joining Reed were second place winner John “Alex” Reed and third place winner Ian Mullaney.
