They fight fires...and change tires!

DI station also welcomes new recruits

Hats off to the crew of Ladder 101 at the Daniel Island Fire Station. On Dec. 6, Captain Gardiner, Engineer O’Shea, Assist Engineer Petrovski and Firefighter/EMT Turner assisted a Daniel Island woman who had a flat tire in front of 130 River Landing Dr. According to Capt. Gardiner, the firefighters changed out the tire for her, and she was safely on her way home.

In other news from the City of Charleston Fire Department, the Daniel Island station recently welcomed two new graduates from recruit class 1702 - Nathan Wall of Queensland, Australia and Nate Smith of Louisville, Kentucky. Wall and Smith are among a group of 16 new first responders who graduated on Nov. 30 as certified level 2 firefighters, accredited by the International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC). On Daniel Island, Smith was assigned to Engine 118 B shift and Wall was assigned to Ladder 101 B shift. Their fellow graduates are stationed in other locations throughout the City of Charleston.

“We are excited to welcome the addition of this latest group of firefighters to the CFD family,” said Interim Fire Chief John Tippett, referencing the new class. “The recruits have received an excellent foundation of basic training under the direction of our dedicated Training Division members. The recruits will graduate from recruit status to probationary status, spending the next six months honing the skills they learned at the Drill Tower. The infusion of this new group of probationary firefighters will help us fill vacancies and provide the community with a fresh cache of first class public safety professionals. We are very proud of the dedication and hard work all have invested in making it to graduation day.”
