A WIN-ning way to support March of Dimes!
Daniel Island’s SunTrust Bank Branch Manager Sheila Underwood has come up with a win-win approach to supporting the local chapter of the March of Dimes (MOD).
As part of the bank’s annual MOD fundraising efforts, the branch has partnered with the Daniel Island Women’s Island Network, better known as WIN, to raffle off some 25 prizes offered by members of the group.
“I thought it would be a great idea to incorporate our fundraising efforts with an activity that will also provide exposure for the members of WIN!” said Underwood, who is a WIN member. Underwood defines WIN as a group of professional women who live and/or work in the 29492 zip code.
“Our goal is to support each other and refer to each other at every opportunity, so our locally owned businesses can thrive on Daniel Island,” she continued. “Many of the WIN ladies work from home. They don’t have store-fronts, so they rely heavily on word-of-mouth referrals to help them achieve success.”
Raffle tickets can be purchased for $3 per ticket, or $5 for two tickets, at SunTrust on Daniel Island through March 31, when the drawings will take place. All proceeds will benefit the March of Dimes. Prizes include a 60 minute massage by Method Health Center, a Mary Kay gift basket from Independent Mark Kay Consultant Chelsea Crawford, a Shutterfly book from Front Porch Travel, two tickets to a Charleston Jazz Orchestra concert offered by Jazz Artists of Charleston, a family photo session by Southern Vintage Design, and much more (see complete list in sidebar).
According to Underwood, WIN was started about 10 years ago by three or four ladies on Daniel Island interested in meeting once a month to socialize. Underwood joined the group a short time later.
“Over the years each of us have invited more people and it has grown into this fabulous group,” she said. “We now have 51 members! We usually have at least 25 at lunch every month. We just want to help each other be successful, by referring to each other, whether its for an attorney, insurance benefits, a realtor, banker, et cetera. It’s a really good networking opportunity.”
At the WIN raffle drawings on March 31 SunTrust is also planning to celebrate its 10 year anniversary on Daniel Island. Their official opening date was April 6, 2006. Anyone interested in obtaining more information about WIN or the raffle can contact Underwood at (843) 654-6289.
