Non-pofit News Staff and supporters gathered outside the Trident United Way’s Resource Connection Center on Main Street in Moncks Corner on Giving Tuesday to say thank you to donors, while also encouraging people to donate. The effort paid off, as generous people and companies helped surpass the goal of $10,000 raised. All proceeds will go to the Resource Connection Centers in Summerville and Moncks Corner. Both facilities provide navigation help and agency referrals to clients who need assistance in the forms of financial, food, utilities and housing. Giving Tuesday is a day celebrated globally where the community is asked to come together to financially support a special cause. Casey Kellermann and Chris Gregory, with other community volunteers, gathered in the parking area at the Church of the Holy Cross on Daniel Island Christmas Eve to fry turkey dinners for those in need. Saint Clare of Assisi parishioners Nancy Bloodgood and Jady Fryml prepare to deliver the first of several loads of Christmas treats to the Lieber and MacDougall Correction Center in Ridgeville. The 1,750 inmates received a heartwarming gift this Christmas, thanks to the efforts of parishioners Fryml, Bloodgood, Kelly Loughery, and Nick Armandi of the parish’s prison ministry team that collected over $12,000 from Saint Clare of Assisi members, the Daniel Island Rotary Club, and several other church communities. The funds enabled the team to give stockings filled with socks, t-shirts, toiletries, and other items to the inmates. Visits to the inmates by families and friends of the inmates were halted in February due to the pandemic, contributing to higher tensions within the prison communities. These small gifts mean a great deal to the recipients who realize that somebody on the outside is thinking about them. The prison ministry team will also purchase a video projector for the MacDougall chapel.
