ANDREW BELL TO RESIGN AS CHARLESTON BATTERY PRESIDENT

Charleston Battery President Andrew Bell will step down from his role effective March 26. Bell joined the Charleston Battery in 1999 and has led the organization as president since 2008.

Bell is leaving Charleston to join the new USL franchise in Memphis, Tennessee. He will be the first employee of the new franchise set to begin USL play in spring 2019.

“We want to thank Andrew for all that he’s done for the Charleston Battery,” said Charleston Battery Chairman Eric Bowman. “He’s devoted an incredible amount of time, energy, and passion to this Club for almost twodecades and has helped us reach new heights every step of the way. We wish Andrew continued success as he takes on this new challenge in Memphis.”

During Bell’s tenure as president, the Charleston Battery won two USL championships in 2010 and 2012 and advanced to the finalof the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup in 2008; the last time a non-MLS side played in U.S. Soccer’s national championship match. “I’d like to thank Eric Bowman for his support and commitment to the Charleston Battery, this is an amazing Club and I’m proud of everything that we achievedtogether,” said Bell.

“I’d also like to thank Mike Anhaeuser and Tony Bakker for everything they have done in support of my role. Without their dedication to the sport, this level of pro soccer would not exist in Charleston.”

ZINNIA HOSTS AUTHOR OF ‘TALK SOUTHERN TO ME’

Julia Fowler, author of “Talk Southern to Me,” stopped in at Zinnia in the Belle Hall Shopping Center last Thursday, March 15, to sign copies of her book and visit with customers at a “Sip’n Shop” event.

Fowler’s “Talk Southern to Me” is a collection of comedic essays and “southernisms” - charm, beauty, sweet tea and more.

The author is a South Carolina born and raised actor, writer, dancer, singer, and producer. She is creator of the “Southern Women Channel,” a growing YouTube channel with over 20 million views. According to a press release about the event, her Southern heritage aided her in becoming a member of the original cast of “Annie Get Your Gun” on Broadway and she has toured nationally with numerous other theatrical productions. Some of her TV credits include “Vegas,” “The Closer,” “Up All Night,” and “Ugly Betty.”

TENANT SIGNS TO LEASE SPACE AT 133 RIVER LANDING DRIVE

Lee & Associates Charleston’s Pete Harper represented the Landlord, Counterbalance Properties in the lease of 1,750 SF of Class A Office space located at 133 River Landing Drive in Daniel Island, SC to the Tenant, Franchise Clique, LLC. According to a website for Franchise Clique, the company matches entrepreneurs with franchises and business opportunities.
