Five-star hotel in the works for River Landing Drive
A five-star hotel is planned to be built in the area behind the fire and police station, near the corner of River Landing Drive and Seven Farms Drive. Conceptual plans for the Johnson City, Tenn.-based Carnegie Hotel project are expected to come before the City of Charleston’s Commercial Corridor Design Review Board in December. The item was removed from the board’s Oct. 27 agenda after city staff realized the plans needed to first pass muster with the city’s Technical Review Committee, according to city Urban Design and Preservation Architect Eddie Bello. The plans, submitted by local firm Stubbs Muldrow Herin Architects, Inc. call for four floors above the ground floor, which appears to include a screened parking area. Blocks of rooms would be sold to investors and then rented to patrons in what is referred to as a condo-style hotel, according to the project’s lead architect, Charles Muldrow.
